Movement Director
As a movement director, Yiling has collaborated with world class athletes, actors, dancers and models, choreographed fashion shows, and blocked scenes for film and music video, often orchestrating multiple bodies across elaborate sets. She has worked with global corporations across multiple brand lines, delivering consistent performance direction within strict brand guidelines.
Recent movement direction projects include international campaigns for Under Armour, Puma, Mowalola, Converse, editorial for Dazed, and contributions to feature film productions. Select performances have been viewed at Sadlers Wells, ICA, and BFI.
Character Designer
Yiling’s works are character-driven tableau vivants: large-scale still lifes where character design, movement direction, photography, and scenography merge into an interdisciplinary language.
As a character designer, her experience extends across departments, weaving together 7 years of performance production with on-set commercial and editorial fashion experience to intuitively connect the narratives between fashion and performance. She loves building and enhancing personality, character and confidence when working with talent in stills and moving image.

Trompe L'Oeil Is Underrated - with Yiling Zhao
The divide between “reality” and “simulation” has been litigated to death, to the point that it feels hack to indulge the conversation much more—what does something as unrelated to our everyday gripes and celebrations as abstract ontology have to provide us at this point? Beijing-born artist Chen Tianzhuo has dabbled in so many fields over such a short sprint of time, it’s hard to define his work today.
